A Gift for You:

A Do-It-Yourself Winter Solstice Retreat

We really, really wanted to offer you an in-person event with a bonfire, hot drinks and warm conversation.

Or at the very least an online gathering with poetry, music and quiet reflection.

But it was not to be.

Never mind a pandemic, never mind locating a fire pit...

Try finding a time when all could gather.

Never mind.

We're offering you something we think just might be better.

A retreat tailored just for you.

At a time and place of your choosing.

You'll have to bring your own warm drink.

But we're supplying everything else.

Why we're even including a bonfire.

We'll send you everything you'll need to create your own personal retreat to mark the Winter Solstice.

The Winter Solstice

Observing the  Winter Solstice is an important practice in many cultures and traditions. There are likely as many ways to mark this natural event as there are cultures celebrating it.

For us, this longest night/shortest day invites reflection, release and renewal.  We welcome the opportunity to dive into the dark, embrace the cold and turn inward. We tuck in with family and pause to remember what the year has given us. Letting go of the past, opens our hearts and minds to newness and hope.

We invite you to join us.

A Do-It-Yourself Retreat? Really?

Yes! A Do-It-Yourself Retreat.

Of course, it is lovely to escape our usual environment, see new faces and make fresh connections at an in-person retreat.

But think of the gift and comfort of hunkering down in your own space and shutting out the rest of the world and setting aside a couple of hours to find peace and refreshment in your own home.

Here's what you'll receive when you sign up:

A welcome email offering:

  • suggestions for items you may wish to have on hand during the retreat
  • simple suggestions for creating a retreat space wherever you happen to be
  • suggestions for how to integrate the retreat into these busy times, and find a moment of peace in everyday life
  • a simple meditative practice to support your preparation.

On December 18, a second email with:

  • private links to music, slideshows and videos
  • specially curated poetry and texts
  • link to private message board
  • a detailed Agenda outlining each step of the retreat, complete with time suggestions for each activity.

We suggest that you allow two hours to engage with the retreat activities sometime between December 19 morning and December 21 midnight. You can do it all at once or break it into smaller sections. It's up to you.

We have one request when you participate in the retreat. In the spirit of reciprocity and generosity, we invite you to share any thoughts, reflections, images or wishes on our private message board for others in the retreat to view. These can be as simple or as detailed as you choose.

Why are we doing this?

From the outset, our intention has been to offer simple, welcoming spaces (inside or outside) and uncomplicated, mindful practices to nourish and restore the spirit.

Whether you are a regular supporter of our work, have been contemplating joining one of our events, or finding us for the first time, we hope you will accept this offering and join us as we welcome this Winter Solstice and call back the light.
